A member asked:

I was diagnosed with the flu , type b today. no fever and i dont feel that bad. doctor prescribed tamiflu. i am very worried about potential complications. people die from the flu? should i be worried?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Worry just a little: For treating Flu A or Flu B, Tamiflu (oseltamivir) is twice a day for 5 days. For prevention of Flu after exposure in an unvaccinated person, Tamiflu is once a day for 10 days. An infected person can ask her doctor for help. College-aged flu patients almost never die from the flu (the death rate is probably less than 1 per 10,000 flu patients). For age 65 years and up, rate is about 80 per 10,000.
