A member asked:

If a person remains frequently constipated and takes b complex supplement . will constipation lead to poor absorption of vitamins like b12, b6 ,b3, zinc etc from pill? to what degree/extent is the absorption compromised? percentages?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on severity: In general, constipation does not interfere with nutrient absorption. A constipated person wants to figure out the cause. If constipation is due to slow movement of food and poop through the gut, then the things people try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber with water, Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, etc... One's doctor can help.
