Doctor can examine: New swallowing symptoms may be from a throat infection (antibiotics are needed if caused by strep bacteria) or some other cause such as stomach acid reflux, an object stuck in the throat, a hyperactive gag reflex, a lack of saliva, a throat muscle coordination problem, a tumor, etc... Usually, a person sees her primary care doctor for evaluation, who can then refer to ENT and GI doctors if needed.
