A member asked:

I had all four wisdom teeth removed at age 12. the lower wisdom teeth were impacted and the top were unobstructed. immediately after, my teeth started to shift and i developed an overjet in a period of 3 years. did the extraction cause this?

No: Removal of your third molars would not cause a discrepancy in your bite. You are in your growing years, and this overjet may be genetic or due to parafunctional habits. Please see a local orthodontist for an evaluation.

Shifting teeth: No, removal of wisdom teeth does not cause other teeth to shift. If you required removal of wisdom teeth at age 12 there must have been a viable reasoner extractions at that early an age. Please consult with a qualified Orthodontist to asses your malocclusion, determine it's causes, and then discuss appropriate treatment options with you and your family.
