A member asked:

Is metro gel safe to use at 14 weeks? i discovered a personal lubricant is causing bacterial vaginosis to recur. i was on anti biotics 3 weeks ago and now it's back since i used the lubricant. i still have metro gel. can i use this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"personal lubricant": A personal lubricant did not cause bacterial vaginosis, as it is made sterile by the manufacturer. Metrogel is not the same consistency as most "personal lubricants", but likewise, will not cause bacterial vaginosis. Infections requiring antibiotics for treatment are usually transmitted by sexual contact.
