A member asked:

Can an allergic skin reaction make a comeback after cutting out antihistamines?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sure: That can happen with any allergic reaction. Antihistamines such as Zyrtec, Claritin, Benadryl, etc... are oral medications that block one of the chemicals in an allergic reaction. There are other things going on in the body during an allergic reaction, and those things continue "under the surface." Oral medications wear off in a few hours or in a day, after which the symptoms can resurface.
