A member asked:

Can knee pain have any connection to leg cramps? waiting on referral to rheumatologist due to both swollen knees. i have that prob still and they ache. i been having some leg cramps too. thanks so much!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: If your knee discomfort has caused an alteration of your gait, muscular irritability can develop. Deficiencies in calcium and magnesium are other causes of muscle cramps. The rheumatologist will order appropriate tests. In the meantime if muscle cramps become frequent your pharmacist can recommend a magnesium supplement to try.
