Shingles: Shingles-reactivation of chickenpox infection w/vzv virus. After chickenpox rash goes away, virus hides in nerve cells & is kept there by your immune system. At times of stress or health conditions that decrease immune system function, virus comes out along a path of 1 nerve as red patches & blisters. Blisters last about 1 wk, pain can last much longer. There are tx to help prevent or reduce pain.
