They'll crust over: If the shingles area is kept clean, then the the popped blisters will crust over, and the itching, burning sensation will slowly diminish, especially if an antiviral agent such as valacyclovir is used early in therapy.

Does stress bring on shingles?

It can: Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. You can only get shingles if you have had chickenpox. The chickenpox virus stays dormant (asleep) in the nervous system and can be reactivated by a weakened immune system, causing shingles. Serious stress can weaken the immune system and bring on a case of shingles. There is a vaccine for preventing shingles for people over 50.
A 27-year-old member asked:

Why does the virus that causes shingles become active again in some people?

Interesting: Usually for reasons we don't understand the varicella-zoster virus that causes chicken pox decides to reactivate later on and cause shingles. This usually happens after age 50, likely due to a weakened immune system as we age. Some other possible triggers are trauma, physical or emotional stress.
A 21-year-old member asked:

What is the difference between chickenpox and shingles?

Dr. James Ferguson
Pediatrics 46 years experience
Location: Chickenpox describes a generalized illness where the virus has circulated thru the body and comes to the skin surface as a later stage. On the skin surface the blisters come up and have living virus in them. Zoster is a reactivation of the virus from its hiding place in a nerve root and its physical location is limited to the skin area supplied by that nerve. The virus is the same.

A 34-year-old member asked:

When does shingles become contagious?

2 doctor answers4 doctors weighed in
Dr. Robert Kwok
Pediatrics 33 years experience
When skin is broken: Shingles skin lesions have contagious viruses from the time the skin lesions begin to break (feel damp or sticky) until after the skin is healing, covered with dry scabs or dry skin. If there is any moisture coming through the shingles rash, then one can safely presume there are still viruses there.

Insect bites: You are describing the normal healing of a bug bite that gets inflamed and then gradually heals. At this point, if there is any increase in redness, pain or swelling, then additional treatment with antibiotics may be needed. Warm compresses on the skin can help.
