Depends: Before treatment can be reccommended, the cause must be established. "sciatica" can be caused from nerve compression (due to disc herniation and/or spinal stenosis) or to referred pain from hip or pelvic disease. Start with your primary care md to determine the most likely cause and then formulate a treatment plan. Good luck.

NSAIDS, ICE, REST: The sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the body, exits the from the low portion of spinal cord, travels through the pelvis, supplies motor and sensation to the back of the thighs, the lower leg, ankle, and foot. The inflammation can be caused by an inflamed disc, or a herniated disc can cause pain. Conservative treatment is motrin, ice, and stretching. Weakness, loss of feeling should see doctor.
