The Good and the Bad: Good news is that many teens who fall on an outstretched hand and end up with "wrist" pain and a swelling just BEFORE the wrist, just have a buckle fracture or a greenstick fracture of one or both of the forearm bones. That means bone got bent or squished by the impact and should heal fine on its own, after getting examined by a doctor. Bad news is that sometimes it's worse, and a cast is needed.
