How : How old are you? Do you have any heart conditions, like congestive heart failure? Do you have any kidney problems? Swelling is a very non-specific symptom and the degree of swelling can cause the tingling you describe. There are a variety of illnesses that can cause swelling in the hands and feet. Some bacterial or viral infections can cause a condition called reiter's syndrome that can affect the joints. Other causes of swelling can be an inefficient heart or inadequate elimination of fluids by the kidneys. A couple of particularly severe conditions are post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis and gonorrhea. While it is unlikely to have clots on both sides, upper extremity deep venous thrombosis can happen and can cause clots to travel to the lungs (pulmonary emboli). You should see your primary care physician promptly, particularly if you are having any difficulty breathing or urinating.
