Discuss SSRI's: Safe is a relative term. Every medication has potential side effects. Recommend that you talk to your child's pediatrician about possible use of an ssri medication. I believe that the pediatrician should always be part of the team approach when the mother is breastfeeding.

Recent study report: Wisner & scalea report sertraline, paroxetine, nortriptyline & Imipramine as the most evidence-based medications for use during breastfeeding: http://www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/pmc/articles/pmc2902256/
must weigh risks/benefits on mother & infant of med vs no med, breatfeeding, etc, with physician. Therapy may reduce depression & its impact on mother & infant. Employ measures for gneral health.
