A member asked:

My son has a couple of very small (eraser size or smaller) bald patches. i first discovered them when he was 6 and i gave him a buzz cut. he is now almost 10. they havent changed in size at all over the years. is this a type of alopecia areata?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: It could be. A biopsy must be taken to confirm the diagnosis, it consists on take a tiny sample of the skin to study it.
