Doctor can evaluate: A primary care doctor can evaluate to see if there is a cold (viral infection) or influenza, a strep throat (bacterial and would need antibiotics), a sinus infection, pneumonia (either viral or bacterial), mucus or wheezing in the lungs (might need some adjustments in asthma treatment), etc... A person can have one or more of these issues at the same time. A doctor's exam is recommended.

Asthma plan: Your asthma plan will help to guide your asthma therapy during the illness. If the cough does not improve, please see your PCP. Nasal saline will help to reduce post nasal drip and secondary cough. An inbox Healthtap consult may be useful particularly in reviewing your asthma plan. Most self limited respiratory illnesses are viral but watch for any signs of worsening.
