Symptoms?: Viral infections may linger for a while and specific symptoms, such as cough, congestion or headaches would benefit from short term use of over the counter meds.

Prolonged cold: In my opinion a viral upper respiratory tract infection that is followed by symptoms of sinusitis or bronchitis after 7-10 days is now usually a bacterial infection and the patient will experience a better resolution of the infection with a course of an appropriate antibiotic. Otherwise recovery may take weeks.
