A month or more: Chlamydia is an intracellular organism that lives inside the infected cell. The Chlamydia test is for the Chlamydia DNA, and since Chlamydia does not always kill the cell. After it dies its DNA is still present until the cell dies. This can take a month or more. The CDC recommends waiting 12 weeks before retesting to reduce the risk of false-positive results and unnecessary retreatment
