High fiber diet: A high fiber diet lowers cholesterol. A fiber diet means plenty of fruits and vegetables. Whole grains and legumes. You need about 35 grams of fiber a day. Beans have 6 g a serving. Veggies are about 3-4 g a serving. Fruits are 2-3 g a serving. You would need at least 5-7 fruits and veggies a day. Beans and whole grain rice would add fiber to your diet. Dairy, meat, chicken, fish have no fiber.
