A member asked:

A long-time heavy smoker spat saliva into one of my eyes. i rinsed my eyes with lubricating drops about half an hour later. could this have caused cancer or disease to my eye?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not cancer: Have never heard of anyone whose spit had such supervillian or superhero powers. Gently rinsing one's eyes out would the recommended thing to do, just to get the usual spit germs out. However, overwashing the eyes is bad to do and will cause eye problems. Life is about balance.
