About prenatals: Prenatal vitamins, with or without omega-3 fish oils, should be taken when a woman is trying to get pregnant, and also when she is fertile but not trying but also not using birth control. The reason is that the prenatals provide some extra folic acid to help prevent a type of neurological birth defect if she were to become pregnant. Prenatals can be take before, during, and after pregnancy.
