Doctor can examine: Some thoughts... Doctors recommend not using cold medications such as decongestants, antihistamines, and cough suppressants in babies or young kids who have typical cold symptoms. Bronchiolitis is a viral lung infection that causes lots of mucus and difficulty breathing (babies may get hospitalized). Sometimes we use asthma drugs when there are asthma symptoms like wheezing. Doctor can evaluate.

RSV possible: Many viral illnesses may cause these symptoms. Infants breathe through their noses and keeping nasal passages clear is an important step in her management. Testing is available to determine the cause, and if the cough is causing shortness of breath or difficulty, further evaluation is indicated. Continue to nurse, but if the baby is choking on feeds, she needs to be evaluated today.
