Did a viginal scan at 5weeeks, only one fetus was detected. at 7 weeks, scanned by a different practitioner 2 heartbeats were detected at 137bmp and 148bmp. now at 10 weeks by the first gynae, apparently a twin disappeared. how possible is this?

Heart beat: Not quite sure how the data on the two heart beats came about. However, a single babies heart beat could change from 137 to 148. So if listened at two different points and that is the likely explanation for the "two" heart beats. Given two ultrasounds at 5 and 10 weeks showing singleton with a high degree of confidence you have a singleton pregnancy.
