About visitors: A visitor to a shingles patient usually does not pick up any shingles virus unless the visitor is directly touching the shingles rash (or moist clothing, dressings at the rash). Babies have a lot more to worry about from visitors than the shingles virus. That is because cold and flu viruses are common and are dangerous to newborns (who are often immune to the shingles virus anyway).
