Probably refers to..: When a person's leukemia changes from a somewhat stable, chronic phase of the blood cancer, into a rapidly progressive phase in which the cancerous blood cells have changed and reproduce much more rapidly, thus becoming higher and higher in number... eventually leading to the patient's demise.
