Tension headache. : Most likely explanation would be spasm of your neck muscles. Your suboccipital muscles connect your head to your upper back and it is common to get tension in these muscles. Tension and stress can cause this alone. However, if you have some primary neck degeneration that would contribute as well. Helpful things to consider would be muscle relaxer, physical therapy, relaxation techniques, massage
