Nerve: This symptom may be caused by an occipital neuralgia which is an irritability/mild inflammation of the nerve which exits from the neck and courses behind the ear and up into the scalp. At times the nerve is pinched by a bulging intervertebral disc or spur. If you have further concerns, consult a neurologist for evaluation and imaging tests may be ordered and appropriate therapy prescribed.
