If not coughing: If not coughing and not having trouble breathing, then a person can assume she swallowed the soda down the correct pipe. If the soda went down the wrong pipe, a normal person would be coughing uncontrollably until the soda comes back out of the wrong pipe, or until the soda got neutralized or otherwise diluted so that it is no longer irritating to the lungs (that's where wrong-way soda goes).
