Lab test: Staph is a common germ for the skin surface & many carry various strains including MRSA in their nasal passages. It randomly contaminates fingers & can be places anywhere you touch, including the face. Staph tend to form self contained abscesses of varying sizes. The only way to know for sure if it is would be a culture of the extruded pus. Local surgical drainage is often curative.
