A member asked:

If one has retinal holes, then could this happen from a poke by an envelope or were they already there?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: The retina is on the inside of the eyeball. It is the lining on the inside. An envelope would be on the outside of the eyeball. The eyeball is very strong... things don't easily go from the outside to the inside unless the eyeball gets shot or ripped open.
