If not constipation,: If not constipation (collection of stool in left lower abdomen) that goes away with a bowel movement, then one's primary care doctor can check to see what the problem might be, such as constipation, abdominal mass, pelvic mass, kidney problem, etc... In a middle-aged adult, even if the pain goes away with a bowel movement, the doctor may want to examine her to make sure there's not something bad.
