For the last three nights i've been waking up between 4 and 5 am with severe cramps in my lower abdomen/intestinal area. i have some gas but passing it does not relieve the pain, nor does having a bowel movement. otc meds no help.

Nocturnal cramps: Irritable bowel syndrome usually doesn't awaken one. I'm concerned about mechanical problems like hernia, adhesions if you've had previous abdominal surgery, partial interssusception,or vovulus if the cramps are very severe and recur. I recommend consulting a gastroenterologist o abdominal surgeon.
