A member asked:

Is it safe to get the flu vaccine if i plan to start trying to conceive in the near future, but am not yet pregnant at the time of the shot?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Some basics: It is best to get the vaccine as soon as it is available to build up protection for the coming season. It does not "wear off" although it does not cover every flu strain every year & some get flu in spite of it. Pregnancy places the mother at higher risk from flu complications/death. When we can we avoid it just in the first trimester out of caution but have no data suggesting it hurts the fetus.
