A member asked:

If you have a unilateral oophorectomy, what are the benefits/risks associated with leaving the fallopian tube or taking it out? is there a difference?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

USO is best: If an ovary must be removed, short term and long term benefits of removing the fallopian tube also (unilateral salpingo-ophorectomy or USO) are believed to far outweigh the minimal surgical intraoperative risk of "taking the fallopian tube out".Blood loss and OR time are usually negligible. Future pelvic pains and other operations for tubal swelling (hydrosalpinx) and of ovarian cancer are reduced
