October is ideal: The strains of influenza vary year to year. Vaccine for each flu season is designed in the spring and becomes available in September or October. Vaccination should be before winter, when flu is most frequent. Hence usually mid-late September through October and for sure by December. In the future, there may be an effective vaccine against all flu strains, with no need for new vaccine every year.
