A member asked:

I have a large whitish spot on my left tonsil behind my tongue. the pain comes and goes and often adds ear pain; it's not throbbing. i went to the doctor who said they didn't see anything. the spot is noticeable when i shine a light on it.

Doctor can examine: Throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold, influenza, or adenovirus (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, one sees the doctor if the symptoms are bothersome, recurrent or don't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). Lozenges, Tylenol, or Motrin can lessen pain temporarily.
