I have a bite on my abdomen that looks like a mosquito bite and it really hurts, its red, swollen and the redness around the bite is about the size of a quarter. is it normal for it to be really painful?

No: A bug bite is usually ok if it looks like a typical small (1/4 to 1 inch wide) mosquito or flea bite. If there is a lot of swelling, a doctor should check to see if it is just an allergic reaction or is actually infected. If the bite area has stuff oozing out of it, or if the area is painful, one should see a doctor to examine for infection. Mosquito bites are usually not that painful.
