Infected cyst: Most likely this is a sebaceous cyst which may be infected. However, with so little information it could also be from trauma,a lipoma or a tumor (least likely) Try warm compresses for 15 min every 3-4 hours. If condition worsens or persists or you develop fever, you need to see your primary doctor or go to an urgent care center

Skin infection: It sounds like you have a skin infection. This type of infection is often called a boil. These often start with a clogged pore or hair follicle. You should get medical attention. It may need to be drained in the clinic. If allowed to progress, it can spread and become dangerous.
