My newborn has a red rash behind her head. is it something that will fade on its own or is there treatment for it?

Likely stays: This may be the common reddish patch of skin at the base if the neck/hairline commonly referred to as a storks bite or salmon patch. It is flat with the skin, not rough like a rash. It can fade some with age but can last into adulthood.
