Some basics: An Rh negative woman is at risk of developing antibodies toxic to baby if that baby is possibly Rh positive. Rhogam is routinely given to Rh negative pregnant women at around 28 wks or when otherwise indicated. Rhogam can stop the development of these antibodies. If they develop, baby can be lost or brain damaged. Time can be critical.
