HCV is Curable: Sharing personal items contaminated with infectious blood, such as razors or toothbrushes (also inefficient vectors of transmission), so if the claws were contaminated with blood, can theoretically transmit HCV if clawed by the same bird. average period from exposure to symptom onset is 2–12 weeks . Over 90% of HCV infected persons can be cured of HCV infection regardless of HCV genotype.

Transmission low: Although Hep C can be passed by blood products and a needle stick, it sounds like your scratches are pretty superficial, since it did not show any bleeding until later, and if your child's scratches did not bleed, it is unlikely virus was absorbed, unlike a full needle stick, which both has blood in the lumen of the needle and penetrates. HCV RNA PCR can be done in 2-3 wks and antibodies in 8-11w
