A member asked:

How important is timeliness in getting a diagnosis of a mass in or near uterus assessed. mass was pallpated. rec that she return in two weeks for ultrasound when she is in her 3/4 day of period. no spotting between periods. mass is growing fast.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Timing is everything: Like most decisions in life and medicine, timing is "everything". The intended purpose of "waiting" to do an ultrasound is to "see" if a mass is an ovarian cyst resolvable with rupture prior to the period. However, the situation that is described indicates that this "mass" is growing rapidly and therefore needs diagnosis and immediate attention with or without treatment. Obtain a 2nd MD opinion.
