A member asked:

Have had 20 kidney stones in 2 years. i had one analyzed- the report said "the specimen composed primarily of fatty proteinaceous material not typically associated with calculus composition. no crystalline material id'd." what might this mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not a stone: That specimen was not a stone but other tissue. I assume you've been evaluated by a urologist but a nephrologist would conduct a workup to look for disorders of metabolism including hyperparathyroidism as a history of 20 kidney stones suggests a metabolic abnormality. In the meantime strain all urine in case you pass another stone that can be analyzed. Drink more water.
