A member asked:

Can an anal wart appear decades after 1st infection with hpv? having no obvious prior symptoms

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: The wart strains of HPV can be cleared from the primary infection & then return at some point in the future. The HPV family is known for its ability to hibernate for years before returning. It could also represent a different wart strain from a new exposure.
