Hydration: Use of cough and cold medicines are not recommended; safe doses have not been established. Drugs like codeine may interfere with breathing, as can dextromethorphan, which can change the infant’s behavior (as can Benadryl). Alternatives include warm fluids. As the cough has lasted 3 weeks, it’s worth getting in touch with your daughter’s pediatrician for additional guidance.
