A member asked:

I am experiencing cough (worsened by: lying flat, night time) (unaffected by: exposure to secondhand smoke) (associated with: no phlegm or mucus, phlegm or mucus) (not associated with: blood in phlegm, barky, hoarse, or hacking sound, whooping sound ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Nocturnal cough: Nocturnal dry hacking cough may be an asthma equivalent or be a reaction to excessive dryness or to dust collecting articles in your bedroom. The latter 2 conditions can be corrected with a humidifier and removal of the dust collectors. If this isn't the problem, asthma inhalers including a corticosteroid component may help. Discuss with your MD.
