I have a dull ache in one calf which feels swollen but isnt visually swollen. also have quite a few varicose veins in this leg but none in the other. this ache seems to come on after long periods of sitting down. what could this be?

Calf veins: Varicose veins can cause many symptoms and aching is one of the prime symptoms. If you have symptomatic varicose veins then you should see a vein specialist for a full venous evaluation including a venous duplex ultrasound. In the meantime, wearing knee length support hose may help.
