Possibilities...: Could just be a ruptured vein, which wouldn't be at all bad, or possibly an infection called superficial thrombophlebitis, which may require treatment. Superficial clot?: This could be an area of superficial phlebitis. Try applying wet heat to the area, are wrap and ibuprofen. This should give you time until your MD returns. It it worsens then go to the ER.
