Yes: Metamucil is basically a fiber supplement. If you feel like you need it to regulate your bowels that should be fine. You won't become dependent on it per se, but you may feel like you require it due to how the severity of your IBS changes over time.

Yes, safe: Yes, Metamucil’s safe, and some studies suggest it helps relieve constipation and other IBS symptoms. It has not been associated with chemical dependence (in other words, if a person suddenly stops taking it, he is not expected to experience withdrawal symptoms).
