Quervains tenosynovi: This is an inflammatory process with pain along the back of the thumb, swelling and pain at the base of the thumb or the side of your wrist. To start treatment over the counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or naproxen. Beyond that a physician must review to possibly inject steroids or/and order physical therapy.

Hand surgeon: I recommend that you consult a hand surgeon for the best care as you want to prevent chronic wrist problems which can occur if this isn't promptly and properly treated.
