Means a call to Dr.: The "reference range" for a lab test is sometimes called a "normal range," and thus confuses people into thinking that a person is normal if his result is within that range. Not quite what it means! Some normal people have results outside a reference range. Some abnormal people have results inside a ref. range. Depending on symptoms, medications, prior TSH results, one's doctor will do something.

Low Thyroid Function: 26 y/o asks What does a TSH of 6.03 (ref range 0.45- 4.5) indicate. means that one's thyroid function is low (Hypothyroidism). usually the Doctor who orders it knows why. It will be a good idea to see one's PCP or Endocrinologist for follow up.
